Juicy News, Folks!!


Well, peeps, along with the amazing documentary, "Under Our Skin," I am beginning to compile a list of documentaries that I find particularly helpful. The next one, which may remain at #2 for a very long time, is called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." In this documentary star and maker, Joe Cross, embarks on a 60-day juice fast to help get his body back onto the path of health and into healing mode. Joe had a rare auto-immune disorder that was told to be "incurable." Well, after 60 days and more than 80 pounds dropped, not only was his cholesterol and blood pressure down, but his "incurable" auto-immune disorder had gone "into remission" [read: away!].


I began thinking about how important it is to allow our bodies to heal themselves when they can, and decided that adding juicing to my diet may just be a great key to giving myself an important tool in my healing success. I inundate myself with pills every day. It's part of the protocol to kill this Lyme. I firmly believe (MY thoughts here) that in order to be successful in killing the Lyme and co-infections, a good mix of conventional antibiotics and naturals/herbals are needed. I hate taking pills. And taking a look at the photo below will tell you just what I have to deal with on a weekly basis. Yuck!
Truthfully, not the BEST shot, but you get the idea. I take 30 pills each day.
So, with that brilliant introduction out of the way... Yes, folks, in addition to being amazing, I'm also humble as humble pie. ;-)
I have been juicing for a few weeks now. And I have to say that I have been feeling pretty good. Not like it's curing my Lyme, but feeling more strong and mentally alert is paramount. I have been feeling a bit more energy this past week, which is terrific. I am hoping to really go full-force after a bit, maybe with a juice fast, but not just yet. 


So, to make this easy for referencing and such, I will be posting a second post about juicing and options, including what my typical juice looks like, etc. I just wanted to let you all know that this may be yet another wonderful, starry-eyed, truly amazing wonder-plan to help us through this ugly disease. Please watch for the next entry, which will come tomorrow.

LOL) for tomorrow's entry, where I will share with you the depth of knowledge I have gleaned from different places on juicing, including a list of things to chuck into the ole juicer!

  1. David and I watched that movie this past summer and juiced off and on for a couple months. Paired with exercise and determination, I've lost 30 pounds since then. It was a GREAT motivator, and just what I needed. :)

    1. That's awesome rachelradio! I am happy to hear that! I have been working on losing weight for the last year... Ups and downs, finally getting a diagnosis of Lyme.. more ups than downs... I've lost 45 pounds and am hoping to lose another 30 or so. It's a big stretch!!

  2. My husband and I watched this movie a few weeks ago. I have Lyme and I am pretty sure my hubby has the "incurable" autoimmune disease the movie talked about (long story but awesome to see that others also have this bizarre issue). Friends of ours are doing the juicing, so we have been watching them and listening to their experience. We have been eating mostly fruits and veggies - meat once a week- for the past three weeks to prepare us for the juicing. We started juicing last week and we do it every few days. I stopped my antibiotics, just needed a break, and I want to try something natural- started taking grapefruit seed extract as a natural antibiotic- and we are doing the juice, etc. I can't say that I am feeling great, actually I seem to get a headache most every time I drink the juice (going on 3 days straight now). Trying to figure out if this is a herxing thing or what, but I can say overall I am not getting worse, which is how it has been on antibiotics for a little while. To me this is a positive. Have you had any herxing reactions or detox things during this juicing journey? I noticed your post on the facebook Lyme page- thanks for the info!

    1. I would venture a few questions... Are you washing your veggies thoroughly before you juice them? And what types of veggies are you juicing? The headache thing after juicing is REALLY odd. Have you thought of juicing as kind of "gross" in the past? I wonder if there's like a psychosomatic thing happening? I have a friend who is really psychologically affected by things. Like if she thinks taking a certain supplement is going to help her not feel hungry, she "feels" the effect about 2 minutes after taking it. :) It's not a horrible thing, but I wonder if you have any predispositions against juicing that might be troubling you? I get that way when I eat fish/seafood. I feel totally sick, and it's no allergic reaction AT ALL... Just me, psyching myself out.

      My husband actually made me a juice the night I had the worst migraine of my life and it delivered nutrition quickly and easily, which I really feel sped up my relief. I would love to learn more about your situation.
